OAVA is an independent design studio focused on creating thoughtful products for everyday living.
Our team brings together architects, product designers, and material specialists who share a fascination with the objects we use every day. We are interested in the quiet details that shape daily life—the way something is held, opened, stored, carried, and eventually becomes part of a home.
Over the years, our studio has developed dozens of home and lifestyle products. Several of our designs have been successfully launched and well-received by customers worldwide.
We believe good design should be useful without feeling technical, refined without being excessive, and durable enough to remain relevant over time.
RETHINKING AN EVERYDAY OBJECT
OAVA began with a design study focused on one overlooked detail: the umbrella sleeve.
The first idea was simple—to keep the sleeve connected to the umbrella instead of treating it as a separate accessory. But making that idea work required much more than adding a pouch.
The sleeve had to fit inside a compact handle without making it bulky. It had to pull out smoothly through the handle opening, remain connected during use, and unfold far enough to cover both the umbrella canopy and the handle.
DESIGNED THROUGH ITERATION
We developed OAVA through repeated rounds of sketching, pattern-making, structural testing, and physical prototypes.
Every version helped us refine the relationship between the handle, the sleeve, the opening, and the rotating mechanism. We adjusted the proportions, the tension of the fabric, the way the sleeve gathered, and the movement required to store it again.
The goal was not to create a complicated mechanism. It was to make the mechanism feel almost invisible—something that works naturally in the hand.
A BALANCE OF FUNCTION AND RESTRAINT
The final design brings together a compact five-fold, eight-rib umbrella, a sleeve that stays connected to the handle, and a full-cover construction with a drawstring closure.
The materials, colours, and proportions were carefully considered to give OAVA a quiet, tactile presence. Nothing is designed to be excessive. Every detail has a purpose, and every surface is intended to feel good in daily use.

OAVA is the result of a process that moves between design intention and practical reality.
It is shaped by sketches, prototypes, small corrections, and many decisions that may never be noticed—but can be felt each time the umbrella is opened, covered, carried, and put away.
